Prevent and Protect Yourself from Fender Bender Fraud in Centennial

Accidents happen of course, though when they happen to you it can feel like a disaster. Some people either in or driving through Centennial may see your luxury car as a chance to make money by committing fraud, and actually cause the accident on purpose to scam the system. To protect yourself, follow these tips for a smoother experience.

Never Assume

People say one thing and do another, and you can’t take a stranger at their word. You might want to dismiss a small collision, but you need to go through the protocol no matter what — as heartless as it all might seem. Even if there’s no damage, a driver could always claim they were severely injured and demand you take care of their medical bills later on.

What to Do

Take pictures of everything: your car, their car, plate numbers, the owner’s drivers license. You can also call the police for an official report so you have something to fall back on if you need someone impartial to back up your side of the incident. Police reports can also help if the driver or other witnesses change their story later on.

The Power In Truth

Fortunately, the truth is on your side when it comes to fender bender fraud, and it can be easy to see through a liar’s story for both law enforcement and insurance companies. If the facts on your end stay consistent, then you’re definitely helping yourself and your case.

Premium vs Regular Gas – Which is Better for Your Vehicle?

Pulling up to the pump, you wonder if you’re making the right choice for your car. Should you be using the more expensive premium gas or is regular the right way to go? According to the Federal Trade Commission, premium can be 15 – 20 cents more per gallon. So, if you choose the cheaper gas, will it create problems with your vehicles’ engine?

First, check the owner’s manual. Your vehicle’s owner’s manual will give you the details on which type of gas you should be using. Regular gas has a lower octane level than premium. If the recommendation is for regular gas, think of the amount of money you could be wasting at the pump. You could have more than $100 a year in unnecessary gas costs!

If you have been using regular gasoline, but you’re startled to learn that your vehicle is supposed to have premium, don’t fret. Your car probably has a high-compression engine for high performance. Start using premium to avoid any further damage to your engine. Utilizing regular, you are probably not getting the best performance out of your vehicle. You should not make a habit of putting the lower octane fuel in your tank. Premium is meant to prevent vehicles with high-performance engines from “knocking”. Usually, premium is intended for luxury or sports cars.

Understand that states may have a different level of octane required for their fuel. Some states may have a lower minimum level for fuel. For example, in Colorado the octane level for regular gas is 85, while in most other states the level is 87. Although you would be saving money in fuel costs, if you are supposed to be using a higher octane, your car could start to have problems overtime. Know the type of fuel your vehicle needs when you are traveling out of state.
